Procurement Buyer 1

General Purpose:

Research, evaluate and process requests, made by all entities and locations, for the purchase of products that includes: services and supplies based on price, service, quality and warranty that meet the needs of the company. Maintain documentation that keeps track of all purchases to allow for audit and verification of purchases. Answer any and all questions in regards to the status of an order. Work with Procurement Category Managers to purchase goods and services from contracted suppliers. Provide pro-active feedback on supplier and supplier performance to Category Managers. This position reports to the Procurement Supervisor.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Receive a purchase request, consult with the requester to develop specifications, make recommendation, identify viable supplier, obtain quote from the appropriate supplier; compare the cost and evaluate the quality and suitability of the product to the specifications required. Communicate with requester and obtain the required approval.

  • Prepare purchase requisition and purchase order if required using the purchasing system. Complete purchase requests by verifying inventory, specifications of purchase request and budget codes. Place order with supplier. Receive supplier order confirmation. Document these activities in the purchase requisition.

  • Maintain accurate and organized purchasing and supplier files subject to audit.

  • Assist in the follow up and provide information to requesters regarding ordering; answering questions and requests.

  • Assist to resolve problems and issues with suppliers involving delivery, quantity, or damage of the item.

Education & Experience:

  • Associate’s Degree

  • 0-2+ years

  • Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Project, Outlook, and PowerPoint). Must have strong proficiency in Microsoft Excel. Familiarity with office equipment such as fax machines, photocopiers and scanners. Certificate in a purchasing program such as, Certified Purchasing Professional (CPP), Certificate in Purchasing Management (CPIM) or Certified Professional in Supply Management certificate (CPSM). Preferred. Associated degree in Business Administration or related field. Preferred.
