Position Summary:

Installs, modifies, and makes minor repairs to personal computer hardware and software systems, and provides technical assistance and training to system users by performing the following duties.

Essential Functions:

  • Inspects personal computer equipment and reads order sheet listing user requirements to prepare microcomputer for delivery

  • Installs or assists service personnel in installation of hardware and peripheral components such as monitors, keyboards, printers, and disk drives on user’s premises.

  • Loads specified software packages such as operating systems, word processing, or spreadsheet programs into computer.

  • Enters commands and observes system functions to verify correct system operations.

  • Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operation problems.

  • Responds to client inquiries concerning systems operation and diagnoses system hardware, software, and operator problems.

  • Instructs user in use of equipment, software, and manuals.

  • Recommends or preforms minor remedial actions to correct problems.

  • Coordinates activities with help desk, network services, or other information systems groups.

  • Provides updates, status, and completion information to manager, problem request tracking system, and/or users, via voice mail, e-mail, or in-person communication.

  • Replaces defective or inadequate software packages.

  • Refers major hardware problems to service personnel for correction.

  • Will preform other duties as required.

Candidate Profile:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma or GED

  • One year certificate from college or technical school or Three to six months of related experience or a combination of education and experience.

Skills and Knowledge

  • Writing - Communicating effectively in writing as appropriate for the needs of the audience.

  • Basic Computer Skills - MS Windows 95, 98, 2000; Microsoft Office; General knowledge of computers and peripherals.

  • Reading Comprehension - Understanding written sentences and paragraphs in work related documents.

  • Oral Comprehension - The ability to listen to and understand information and ideas presented through spoken words and sentences.

  • Law and Government - Knowledge of laws, legal codes, court procedures, precedents, government regulations, executive orders, agency rules that apply to job (e.g., OSHA, EPA, ADA, CFC, NFPA, ASI).

  • Clerical - Knowledge of administrative and clerical procedures and systems such as word processing, managing files and records, stenography and transcription, designing forms, and other office procedures and terminology.
